A story of passion, struggle and dreams
Giants of Africa Documentary
Deliverables
In 2015 and 2016, we produced a documentary feature based around Masai Ujiri’s annual trip to Africa to conduct basketball development camps. Across four countries, the film chronicled the experiences of young African men as they faced staggering odds to attend these camps and to change their lives.
In order to bring this film to fruition, our team managed every aspect of the production, from the earliest stage of development through to the final stages of completion. Budgeting, financing, cost reporting, business affairs, location management, producing and post-production, we did it all. And our efforts paid off.
The film’s director, Hubert Davis, had previously been nominated for an Academy Award, and our re-recording mixer had won an Emmy. In February 2016, as part of NBA All Star Weekend, the film had a major preview screening at The Lightbox, and in September, had its international premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. It was released theatrically in early 2017, after which it became available on Netflix. The film received two nominations for Canadian Screen Awards, winning one for best documentary editing.
